Some people can drink a heap and be super skinny others chuck on the kegs. He clearly didn't enjoy being overweight. You don't start to address it when you're hiding gin and pouring vodka into coke cans so you can walk around the city with it. He doesn't seem like a massive solo drinker, but the main issue with alcoholism is anything can bog you down. Dude probably had plenty of friends, he definitely drank socially and went out probably every night, and I'd say his main issues came from giving up everything else to do that. I don't think he was drinking to get away from anything or to numb it. Which, of course, led him into situations of drinking. He was a young guy with not much else to distract him aside from his band. I'm about the age Paul was when Turn On The Bright Lights came out.įrom what I know (Meet Me In The Bathrom – I was never that 'into' him as a person, very indifferent, but he came across as a pretty funny and one of the very few normal people in that book) and can put together, I don't think he was a terrible drunk. I'm not an alcoholic but I am a heavy drinker and pretty interested in the way (famous) people (I like) also interact with drinking.
